Out of the vending machine I go. Dropping into sticky yogurt hands. I get stuffed into a lunch bag, waiting to be eaten. I am a Starburst taffy. I was told to spy on room 4057 with my partner Lays.
Morning:
9:03: I enter an elevator with the ladies. I see the person that took me: she has a pony tail and glasses with a blue yarn bracelet.
9:05: We slowly enter the room. A man wearing a green and yellow striped shirt stands in font of the room. His name happens to be "Ted".
9:15: Teds assistant comes in late wearing a red flowing shirt and black shoes. Her name mysteriously is Claudia.
9:20: The students take out their hand painted notebooks and start an activity called "Morning Pages" for 23 minutes.
9:23: Ted walks around asking the students what they are presenting for tomorrow's open house. I get a call from my friend, Lays, saying that I need to hurry before the break because then I will be eaten.
9:32: Mathew types at the computer.
9:35: Ted continues to whisper and walk around to the students as morning pages go on.
9:35: Naolin sneezes.
9:37: Sophia stares at the computer while Ted helps her understand how to use it.
9:41: Everyone continues writing silently.
9:45: Ted explains how titles are given and are similar.
9:46: Students list good titles.
9:48: Ted makes a list of what makes a good titles: A Good Title...:
Is a cool combination of sounds and words (i.e. alliteration, rhyme, etc.
Is mysterious and questioning
Gives clue about the story
Has multiple meanings
Is NOT just a description about the story (e.g. "My Memoir about Disneyland"
9:50: Children raise their hands to explain why certain titles are unique.
9:57: Tyler explains how Ted's title has many meanings
9:58: Ted reads poem by Erin Witham
10:05: Nicholas and Mathew read their ethnography report.
10:20 Ted says whoever wins this writing game gets a can of Pelegrino Italian Soda. My heart is pounding. It is getting closer to break and I'm going to be eaten!
10:55: Tyler wins the game with his poem title "A Speck of Memories" and the actual title of Jane Kenyon's poem is "What Came to Me." As get taken out for break, I get ready for pain. She opens my wrapping and I disappear little by little and Lays takes over. This is Lays taking over Starburst. I grieve for him but I must carry on this mission.
10:59: Kids go to break.
11:00: Most of the boys go strait to the vending machine.
11:05: Kayanne desperately runs around to find the time.
11:09: Andrew laugh maniacally.
11:14: Christina stands alone while drinking something.
11:31: Ted call the end of break.
11:50: Isabella lost her lunch bag but found it in the room. Naolin losses hers too but Claudia found it. This is very confusing.
11:58: Anthony makes weird noises.
12:10: Ted goes around talking to the students about their presentation tomorrow.
12:20: Jason shares his haiku.
12:21: The readers leave.
12:22: The rest leave.
As a complete class, I, Lays, and Starburst ended up in the same stomach. All in all, this class' character is family. Everyone here is different, everyone has a place.
